Smooth Writing Style

There exist two ways to transfer our ideas, feelings, and intentions to others; speaking and writing. Both of these skills are very important and salient. But comparing these two with each other, we should submit that writing is more academic and scholastic. And in this modern world of communication, writing is of the main place, because most of the information, news, or even personal feelings are transferred through posts on social networks or media.

Writing demands us to use our hands and brains to create a text that displays our spoken language. A written text should have the capacity to convey the meaning in a clear, understandable and fluent way. So, the main characteristic of a proper written text is its fluency and comprehensibility in a way that the reader can easily follow the stream of the writer’s thoughts. To cut the long story short, a written material should be smooth and fluent. Here are some suggested tips for writing smoothly:

1. Choose a main idea for your writing. Decide what you want to talk about to your readers, and what you want to tell them about it.
2. After choosing an idea, start writing about it. Write whatever comes to your mind considering the idea. But be careful! Your sentences should be structurally and grammatically correct. The subjects of the sentences should match the verbs, the tense of the sentences should be related and correct, etc. This characteristic of writing is called cohesion. So, your writing, first of all should have cohesion in order to be considered as a piece of writing. But remember, these sentences are just the raw material for the final product.
3. After writing grammatically impeccable sentences, we should connect them well to make a complete material conveying the idea to the readers. The written product should be coherent, that is, it should be in a state that all the parts and ideas fit together well in a way that they form a united whole. In order to keep the coherence of a text, we should consider the main idea as a trunk of our writing tree, and pin everything that we want to write about to this trunk as the branches. Of course, if we intend to make a beautiful tree, the branches should be in a complete harmony with the trunk and other branches as well. So, after writing the sentences, the writer should act as a gardener who trims the tree by cutting or deleting some sentences as branches, or grafting some new sentences in order to make a beautiful final whole.

In conclusion, smooth and fluent writing is one step above the accurate writing. We can make correct sentences, but when they are not joined to each other wittily, the result will be just a collection of distracted sentences which are thrown at different directions without clinging to any idea. And as a result, the reader will not be able to comprehend your meaning.
